Miracles DO EXIST...They Happen Everyday!

Not to worry, this isn’t a religious musing or a review of the TV show. Most people when they hear the word “MIRACLES” they immediately relate it to God or a supernatural event and/or something about religion. Well, miracles happen everyday whether we are aware of it or not. Human beings have a way of creating their own personal miracle; even if they aren’t aware of it. They aren’t the supernatural or paranormal kind such as a bleeding statue, a crying wall or an apparition seen by the religious sect. They are simple miracles that happen day by day, time to time…the fun thing is we weren’t aware that we’re creating a miracle.

“Miracles” are defined by the dictionary as:
1) An event that appears inexplicable by the laws of nature and so is held to be supernatural in origin or an act of God:
2) an effect or extraordinary event in the physical world that surpasses all known human or natural powers and is ascribed to a supernatural cause.
3) such an effect or event manifesting or considered as a work of God.
4) a wonder; marvel.
5) a wonderful or surpassing example of some quality: a miracle of modern acoustics.

Wow! Reading the definitions, I’m not exactly sure how my write up would fit into them. Someone very dear to me once told me that a miracle doesn’t have to tied to anything supernatural but rather we, as human beings have the capacity to bring forth a miracle. Not by magic, or special mutant powers but just being who we are. Our flaws and weaknesses can instead be used to bring forth an ‘everyday miracle’. For me, a MIRACLE is an act of kindness, maybe an action of extraordinary courage and determination to better ourselves, perhaps even an act of love; something that is totally unexpected and demands nothing in return. It can also be something that wasn’t intentioned to be any act at all; but rather a natural instinct that we as humans just want to do or need to do. Something totally immaterial and a part of our daily routine. You don’t need to count on God to perform a miraculous event, sometimes a miracle is just so simple that we don’t even see it and we’re not even aware of it.

There’s a young man who worked as a messenger making minimum wage to support himself while going to school. He works 6 hours every night and goes to school for another 8 hours. This young man lives in a slum yet he manages to graduate and becomes an accountant. He becomes successful and eventually becomes a department supervisor. He gets married, has kids and has a good life. This is a miracle of DETERMINATION.

There’s a jobless man who hangs around my condominium before. This man was very unfortunate; no education and deep in poverty. He takes small handy-man jobs but often he doesn’t have any work at all. How does he survive? Where does he get his money to eat and rent a space? Well, his friends in the security area lets him sleep in their small office and shares their food with him when he has no money to rent a room or buy his own food. The people share what little they do have. This is a miracle of KINDNESS.

There’s a single mother who works two jobs to support her two kids. She worked as a waitress at night and as a saleswoman during the day. They have a decent apartment and do manage to eat good food. She prepares them herself before she goes to work, ready to be eaten by her kids when they get hungry in school or at night. This woman does these things until the two kids are ready to work and go to the college. Where does she get the energy to perform such deeds everyday? This is the miracle of WILL and HARD WORK.

A man who goes to work everyday with a job so perilous that most people would turn away. He is an ICE Trucker; sent to deliver supplies and food to a very isolated area in Alaska. The weather is very rough and this job isn’t easy. Things are pretty routine to him because he is on the road most of the time, with very little time to connect with people and develop friendships. Yet, this man has to do what he does so that the people in that isolated spot can survive in the harshest of conditions. What drives this man? It may be a miracle of COURAGE and DUTY. (this miracle can also be seen as something that drives our troops. Thanks to them.)

A poverty-stricken place in a third world country has no clean water supply yet they manage to make use of what they do have. They can’t even buy clean water and they have to boil their water to be consumed. They bathe in polluted waters and yet they feel very refreshed. This situation is so sad, that they even have to eat food scraps to survive. Yes, my friends, these places do exist in the world. Their situation is so sad and miserable that one may wonder how the adults and children can still manage to smile and have fun in their own different ways. This is the miracle of HOPE. It may be foolish to some but it is a miracle indeed.

Someone who lost his wife, lost his job and went bankrupt. He somehow finds the strength to live on and begin a new life; start all over again…he never gives up. Took him some years to get back on his feet but he does so slowly. This man struggles but eventually finds someone else to share his new life with; never backing down and never giving up. This is a miracle of FAITH.

A terminally-ill man goes to see his doctor to see if the inevitable may be delayed so that he can spend more time with his family. He smiles even though his doctor says that he can be offered no medication to cure his disease but the medication can only ease his pain. He comes home to his wife and family hoping to spend as much happy moments with them before his time. He is happy and content despite the sad news; this is a miracle of LOVE.

Miracles? Yes, there are miracles everywhere; there are a lot more than I can list. They occur everyday, but most of us take them fore granted. People have the uncanny ability to adapt to their situation; good or bad. Do we need a supernatural event so that we can say that miracles happen?
Look around, a miracle may be happening right next to you…by someone you least expect.

Miracles are within our ability to perform. You just have to believe you can do it.

I have no idea why I'm leaving this music; but I like it anyway!

Great write up! And your comment below to devora rings true; you have to suffer hardship to realize how strong you can turn out to be with the miracles you listed in the review!

Thanks, Brenda. I dunno, I guess I am the type of guy who did go through a lot...

Me too...I know where you're coming from, and unfortunately some people don't keep their minds open enough to see the miracle when it happens and they miss out on the positive effect of it and they seem to be weak because of it......

Awwww, your review is like chicken soup for the soul and just the enlightenment I need :)  I love how you pointed all these miracles in these otherwise seemingly negative situations.  It takes a special kind of person to be able to see the positivity through all this.  I think the take home message here is to count your blessings and just be grateful for all the good things that you have in your life.  Thanks for sharing, Woo! :)

"chicken soup for the soul"...wow I like that! ha-hah. I have to say most often than not, people who've experienced hardships can appear stronger (I know I've had my share of them) because they learn from them. It is so easy to forget one's blessings when one leads a comfortable life. Thanks for reading, Devora. :-)

Hi William- this is very good and oh so true.  We do effect people everyday without even knowing it.  Little miracles I call them......just helping someone cross the street or by holding a door open-random acts of kindness.  I suppose it's only human nature, but we do take these things for granted.   In the next few days I'm going to count all the miracles in my life and I'll let you know what I come up with.

One time I offered to help a blind woman cross the street and she screamed at me! I guess she thought I was some sort of freako but I tried, right? I guess sometimes it's hard to help when someone doesn't want your help...Let me know how much you do come up with, sometimes we need to remember what we have...

I like it, William! Nice! Very nice! :D Be it by God, be it religious or be it by everyday people, I love Miracles!!!

somehow I knew you'll be one of the ones who'll enjoy this write up. My bros think I'm becoming sappy LOL!

So, are you? If you are indeed, it'll be good for you! I see some cynicism in u through some other writings though... esp. when it comes to love! ;-)
January 06, 2010
which is why I think this will be my last one for now, philosophy-wise. However, I wouldn't say that I'm cynical, but maybe more of a realist. ;-P

I hope all the photos show up.

Thanks, Frank! I think I be one of those folks who've gone through more hardships in a lifetime; I am still more fortunate than others but I definitely had my share of bad luck.
