This is a book that changed my life...and all the friends' lives that I referred the book to as a must read. Our civilization is going through massive upheaval right now, and this simple account of a walkabout with the Aboriginals in Australia by a non-native "observer" is mind blowing. This book had my head spinning in thoughts about culture morays I've never even considered. I was able to look at my own outlook on life in a very matter of fact way. There are not many books I can say I've felt have literally altered my way of looking at reality. If I could pick one book to feed your spirit and boost your own belief in who you are and why you are on this planet-- it would be this one. While some of the wording is a bit dated (it was written in the 80s), the message isn't.
Without giving too much away (and you really can't, as it's all broken down into segmented events on this walkabout), I will say that just learning so distinctly about the Aboriginal culture from an "outsider" or "Mutant" as she is called (and so are we and non-Aboriginals!), my own consciousness has expanded its view of this world and all that exists in it!
Marlo Morgan actually experienced this walkabout, but labeled the book "fiction" to protect the tribe, who lives off the grid of Australian society. It is truly a creative non-fiction account of her life and the wonderful things she learned with this native tribe.
If you want to deepen your understanding not only of another culture, but of yourself then you must read this book. I guarantee you will not feel disappointed (and if you do, well, I guess it brought out whatever needed to emerge from within you!)
