2012 nonfiction book by Phyllis Schlafly and George Neumayr
Power Unrestrained For four years Barack Obama has waged an unparalleled attack—largely undocumented by the mainstream media—on religious liberty in the United States. Never before has an administration been more convinced that there is … see full wiki
"Obama appears to assume that the whole Bible is a fallible document, the doctrines of modern liberalism are beyond any questioning, which is why he seems so confident, even arrogant in dismissing his critics. He knows the truth, they represent error and ignorance. For him, secularism is synonymous with "reason" and religion synonymous with "mere opinion", which explains why Obama regards his "evolving" views as infallible and Christianity's changeless principles as disposable". -- page 51
With the pivotal 2012 presidential election just weeks away it occurs to me that the overriding issue may not be the economy as so many of the pundits would have us believe but rather a much more basic one. The American people must decide "what kind of a country do we want to live in?" After nearly four years in office it has become increasingly clear to growing numbers of Americans that Barack Obama has a particular disdain for those who wish to practice their faith in America. The evidence is all around us. Conservative icon Phyllis Schlafly has teamed up with George Neumayr, a contributing editor to `The American Spectator" to chronicle the Obama administrations relentless drive to remove religion from the public square in their new book "No Higher Power: Obama's War on Religious Freedom". Having read a number of books about the President over the past year I anticipated there would be precious little new information in this book. I was dead wrong.
As has been chronicled in so many other books over the past few years Barack Obama is a disciple of Saul Alkinsky, the author of the 1991 book "Rules for Radicals". What I had not heard before was Schlafly and Neumayr's inclusion of that books dedication to Satin in its initial printing. It went like this: "Lest we forget an over-the-shoulder acknowledgement to the very first radical: from all our legends, mythology and history (and who is to know where mythology leaves off and history begins--or which is which), the first radical known to man who rebelled against the establishment and did so effectively that at least he won his own kingdom--Lucifer". I don't know about you but I am extremely uncomfortable having a man who champions the worldview of a man like Alinsky as President of the United States. For those of us who were paying attention it did not take long to see where Obama wanted to take this nation. For example, in May 2009 Obama appointed gay rights activist Kevin Jennings to be the "Safe Schools Czar" Obama circumvented the Senate confirmation process by appointing 35 of these unelected, unaccountable czars to his administration. Shortly after his appointment, Mr. Jennings offered this combative observation: "We have to quit being afraid of the religious right....I'm not trying to say [F---} `em, which is what I want to say because I don't care what they think. Drop dead!" As the authors point out time and again in "No Higher Power" the Obama administration is populated with people who share this view of religious individuals.
As a practicing and somewhat orthodox Catholic I found some of the revelations in "No Higher Power" to be particularly disturbing. I learned that the Archdiocese of Chicago paid for many of Barack Obama's expenses when he was a community organizer in Chicago. Furthermore, I discovered that the Catholic Campaign for Human Development funneled more than $7 million to the radical group known as ACORN between 1998 and 2008. Trust me I will never contribute to that collection again. If you have read anything about Barack Obama you know that he uses people and organizations and he will toss you aside when you are no longer of any value to him. Just ask Oprah. The Catholic Church is learning the hard way too. The monster they helped to create is now demanding that all employers, including most religious ones, pay for the contraceptives, sterilizations and abortion-inducing pills of their employees. As a result many Catholic hospitals may be forced to close their doors and this President and his minions couldn't care less. Meanwhile, just this past May the President announced his support for gay marriage. There is no question that Obama has been a supporter of gay marriage for at least 15 years but political expediency forced him to conceal his true position. Obama now likes to say his position has "evolved" over the years. The man is a compulsive liar. Meanwhile, opponents of gay marriage have always worried that priests, ministers and rabbis would one day be forced to preside at gay marriages in their churches and synagogues. As a result, churches and synagogues could lose their tax exempt status. What is going on in this country is extremely frightening.
The anti-religious policies of the Obama administration have implications for all of our institutions. If he wins re-election Obama clearly intends to stack the Supreme Court with ACLU judges who openly favor a secularist agenda. He has revoked the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell Policy" in the military and is now attempting to force military chaplains to perform same-sex marriages. They have banned Bibles from military hospitals and now prohibit invoking the name of Jesus Christ at military funerals. All the while the President has been cow-towing to Islam since the day he took office. Schlafly and Neumayr dub his approach "Islamophilia" which is a pretty apt term in my book. One wonders how many liberals in this country can defend the incredibly illiberal tendencies of militant Muslims. But they share a common goal--the destruction of Christianity.
Now as I indicated earlier when I purchased my copy of "No Higher Power: Obama's War on Religious Freedom" I wasn't sure how much new material I would encounter in this book. As it turns out I discovered just how much I did not know about this subject. If the issues surrounding religious liberty are of concern to you then I urge you to read this book. Frankly what I learned was shocking. It seems that in Barack Obama's world public acknowledgement of Jesus Christ is unlawful while Islam's name for God is not. What kind of country are we becoming? Clearly what is creeping into our society is an atheistic tyranny of a small minority of citizens. Those of us who cherish religious freedom need to arm ourselves with the facts and learn to fight back. Reading "No Higher Power" would be a great way to get up to speed on these monumentally important issues. Very highly recommended!
