Pros: clear vocals, wonderful selections

Cons: none

The Bottom Line: An absolutely needed CD for your Christmas collection

Clear and precise vocals make this a very enjoyable listening experience. There are many styles of holiday music, according to the holiday, but I find Christmas has the most eclectic range of styles available. From jovial, sing-along songs to scared spiritual ones, there are many stages of Christmas listening available.

This delightful selection is a better choice for reflection, or background music during a family gathering. The 13 selections are all reverent and inspirational, tending to give you a more restful listening experience. Not only are you treated to the unmistakable voice of Josh Groban, but he joins with Brian McNight, Faith Hill, and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir for a different sound. Nothing beats his own voice, though, when he sings many of the sentimental favorites of the Christmas season.

In particular, he chose a favorite of mine, I’ll Be Home For Christmas, with an overlay of messages from troops serving in Iraq. This song has always been most touching for me and the addition of these messages just brought me to tears. Quite an intuitive piece of engineering by the producer, David Foster. They follow this song with his rendition of Ava Maria which simply must be heard.

You can’t put a finger on his vocal range, it varies with each song. In addition, he adds an emotional substance to the songs, which makes them even more heartfelt. Even though his voice can be both loud or powerful and soft or soothing, he is clearly heard above the London Symphony Orchestra, they never overwhelm him and he never drowns them.

This is the artists fourth album and, with each release, his maturity cannot be denied. Although only in his mid-20’s, he shows a remarkable ability to transcend to all generations. You can only expect a long and successful career for this multi-talented musician.

Noel is an outstanding selection for this holiday season. Available online at most music purchasing outlets, as well as through his website. Purchasing through his website you can receive a holiday ornament along with the CD [didn’t know that until too late]. You can find this at: http://www.joshgroban.com/

Buy yours now and don’t wait until Christmas to open it. It is absolutely timeless classical Christmas music and should be enjoyed long before the season.

3. I’ll Be Home For Christmas
