Even though I've owned the PS3 for awhile, I'm still not completely well rounded in the system's additional accessories. Therefore, my knowledge concerning charge bases is very limited. For reasons I can't remember, I was never fond of the USB cord, and I decided to look around for a charge system. I decided to go with my gut feeling and I picked up the Nyko Charge Base 2. And up to this day, I'm still satisfied with the product.

The purpose of the product is of course to charge the PS3 controllers once they become low on power. The Charge Base is a really good size, it's about the same length as the PS3 controller so it doesn't take up any real space. It also isn't heavy at all. The Charge Base comes with a very helpful step by step, and picture directed instruction manual written in four different languages with Spanish and English being the most notable to me. But the accessory is incredibly easy to figure out without it.

When opening the package, the Charge Base comes with two dummy controllers in the ports, giving you a picture perfect idea on how the controllers should be placed. First, plug up the cord which runs about 3 ft. and turn the charger on and two green lights will appear. There are arrows pointing in a specific direction to aid you. Even more, there are two USB charge adaptors, which have a specific shape that makes them impossible to be fitted in any other way except for the correct way. It almost feels as if it was created to be stupid proof, I actually felt insulted to be honest.

When placing the controllers in the port, gently place the adaptors into the USB slot on the controller, and just simply sit them there. There is no reason to force them, and there is no "click" sound to listen for, indicating that it's in place. Once the controller is placed in the base, one of the green lights will turn red. Once the controller is at full power, the light will turn green again. I'm not exactly sure how long it takes to charge, but the controller would be ready way before the fresh one will be anywhere near dying. But if I had to guess, then maybe an hour or so. I just don't recall the wait being very long, and this is even when I have company over, charging two controllers and playing with another two for hours.

The booklet also comes with a care and maintenance section that should be read. Overall, I can't think of any problems with the product. The only regret that I may have, is that I should have looked for one that charges four. But two is excellent for the casual or hardcore gamer who prefers to play solo a majority of the time.
