This Is The Best-Value Flashlight I've Ever Owned! Bar None!

Like most guys I know, I consider myself a bit of a gadget junkie.  If there’s anything somewhat mechanical and/or technical in nature that can be manufactured AND fits in my pocket in any way, shape, or form, then I’m likely to have one of them around the house somewhere … if not already in my pocket.  Pocket knife.  Pocket pen.  Pocket MP3 player.  Pocket multi-tool.  Pocket flashlight.  My wife thinks I’m trying to be Jack Bauer – in the wrong place at the wrong time but with the right tool (to save lives!) – and I suppose, if that’s the case, then there’s nothing wrong with that.

Because men’s men are always preparing to handle themselves when the Apocalypse arrives, I’m also the kind of guy who keeps a flashlight on my bedside table.  It helps to know where one is in case there’s a power outage of any sort or if you get up in the middle of the night (as I’m prone to do) while the light switch is on the other side of the room.  For those reasons (and many others), I prefer to have ample illumination; plus, I have a handful of house pets, and you never know when ‘dad’ has to shine a light on ‘em for good measure.

So naturally when OXA contacted me about testing out the OXA 350 Lumen Cree Q5 Black UltraBright LED Flashlight with 5 Modes, Charger and Rechargeable Battery I was, of course, interested.  What guy wouldn’t be?  It’s the perfect chance to test it out, make sure it does what it’s advertised to do, and only be better prepared for when Nazis or zombies or whatever else that goes bump in the night finds its way under my four walls.

I have to admit that I’m thrilled with it.

For starters, one of my big bugaboos is that whatever flashlight – battery-operated or rechargeable – provide AMPLE ILLUMINATION.  (Seriously, I can’t stress that enough.)  After all, what’s the point in having any light available if it isn’t going to exceed one’s expectations when and if you need it?  Because of this wish, I’ve often had to keep some unusually large behemoth of a hand-held unit on the nightstand, the kind of thing that could accidentally crack a skull were it swinging around in the dark.  This Q5 Black UltraBright is wonderful, casting out up to 350 Lumen in a bright, focused sphere.

It works wonders when I’ve used it – several times already – and my wife even prefers it over the one she currently keeps on her side of the bed.  Why?  Precisely because it isn’t some twelve-inch long billy club!  It measures just under six inches in length, and, at about one inch in diameter at the base, it fits comfortably into her petite lady hands.  (Erm … mine, too, if you don’t mind my saying.)

The device comes with a 2200mAh rechargeable battery and the required AC-charger unit (also nice and compact when compared to some other units I’ve seen), as well as a brief instruction manual (not that each of us doesn’t know how to work a flashlight).  I suppose – as a critical thinker – the only suggestion I’d offer is that it would be nice were the charger the type that could kinda/sorta hang off-the-wall while plugged in to the nearest socket for recharging instead of being a tabletop-style model, but that’s small potatoes when valued against the flashlight’s strengths.  However, this thankfully isn’t the kind of flashlight that, in order to maintain a charge, you need to constantly keep plugged in; my experience with several kinds of those models is that they’re garbage, they keep very little charge despite staying attached to a source of electricity, and their illumination is fairly poor.

At this price, this is an amazing value for those of us who light to stay prepared.  I’ve since retired my bigger flashlight to the junk drawer in my garage, and I lie down every night knowing that I’m keeping this nifty little gadget safety within arm’s reach where it can do the most good when I needed.

HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION POSSIBLE.

In the interests of fairness, I’m pleased to disclose that the fine folks at OXA provided me with a sample product after contacting me via social media for the purposes of penning this review; the providing of said product in no way, shape, or form has influenced my estimation.
