Old World Inn has Old World Charm with New World Prices and Conveniences.

When I reserved a room at the Old World Inn, in their special instruction comment area, I noted that this was our first romantic getaway since my husband and I got married in May. I added that it would be great if they could put us away from everyone or upgrade our room. When we got there, there was not any indication that the innkeeper remembered this special note (negative one) because it led to and highlighted negative two.

She placed us in the room right by the two common sitting areas, the check-in desk and where everyone got their snacks and coffee. We were so much in the middle of everything, that I actually felt I had to whisper so I wouldn't disturb anyone or have them overhear what we were talking about. Then, to add insult to injury, the people upstairs were quite the clunky walkers. I couldn't believe I spent $200 for a room on a Tuesday evening to whisper and not enjoy the jacuzzi jet tub that was included in the room. The room was also SUPER bright, the blinds did not do anything to keep out the morning light (negative two).

Now, for the pluses: the innkeeper was helpful in recommending restaurants and even made our dinner reservations for us. She also helped map out our downtown tasting adventure since we had no desire to drive to all the wineries, figuring it made sense to walk to their downtown tasting rooms, instead of risking a DUI or accident. This is after all, Napa, a daytime drinking town where the tasting rooms all close around 6p.

The B&B had an afternoon snack time, an evening wine tasting with appetizers and wine from a local winery, a late night chocolate treat, coffee, tea, hot cider and cocoa at any time, free DVDs, and a wonderful gourmet breakfast from 9a-10a. They have a great firepit outside surrounded by comfy outdoor chairs and sofas for sipping wine or eating chocolates. They also have free WiFi and a computer for guest use in one of the main rooms. The two sitting rooms had comfy leather chairs and seating areas with fireplaces.

The final plus for Old World Inn is easily the location. It is located a few blocks from downtown Napa, tasting rooms, fantastic restaurants, live music venues and walking distance to the river as well as the Oxbow Marketplace. The main inn and cottages are directly across from a Safeway.

This is the perfect place to go if you're just looking for a place to crash after a full day of wining and dining your way through the Valley. For Napa, it isn't that bad in terms of price but, I didn't feel like we had the best room for the price. The extras are what sold me enough to reserve the room and they are definitely worth a second trip, with maybe just a new room. If you like to catch an afternoon nap, relax in your room in between the wining and the dining, enjoy some romantic time or sleep in after your full day of wining, you might want to upgrade to one of Old World's cottages, an upstairs room away from the main areas or perhaps a room in the other Inn (not the Main Inn).
