From the Only The Brave website: OTB Kilts was founded in 2002 when Regina O'Reilly needed to justify her frequent trips to NYC for the St. Patty’s Parade, Tartan Week and more. Her curiosity was peeked in March of 2001 … see full wiki
I am transiting through London Heathrow airport last week when a huge billboard stops me dead in my tracks: "ONLY THE BRAVE" it reads.... it's Diesel fragrance for men. Comes in a fist-shaped bottle. You tell me if it's any good... I don't know anyone yet who tried it.
But indulge me for a minute while I recall the heady days of Summer 2006; when our local lads stepped out; ONLY THE BRAVE!
Never reached billboard status but we had one glorious OTB season when we got to put men in kilts; sent them out onto the Seventh Sense catwalk (Fall '05), and can still hear the group squeals from women in the audience like they were on a roller coaster.
And... sent local rock band hero off to the Poet & Patriot pub in a raw silk kilt (that's him with his guitar), where he was, by all accounts, heartily celebrated.
And... put the Santa Cruz Grangemaster in an historic kilt - that's him lifting his kilt apron, only to reveal it's hemp mind you.... (plus proudly sporting our local internet providerCRUZIO t-shirt!)
And though we did not win the ETSY contest, a man walked into our ONLY THE BRAVE studio one day and walked out totally stoked, the proud new owner of the only hemp/organic cotton plaid kilt in the Land (to our knowledge).
We in our turn were stoked that that fellow was none other than John Muir's ('father' of our National Parks) great grandson!
ETSY goes from strength to strength with endless wide array of handmade delights
Nearsea Naturalseco-friendly fabrics are second-to-none (scroll down to blog entry June 1st 2006 for ETSY hemp kilt collaboration)
OTB Santa Cruz still kits out the entire St Paddy's Day golfer crowd (it's all in the swing) and you'll find them all at Los Gatos' Hannegan's making merry after the game.
