Disclaimer: I am generally an upbeat, energetic person and live in South Florida, so the Philips goLITE BLU may not seem like a great fit for me. However, I do work in a dark office for most of the day and sometimes have trouble sleeping through the night, so I figured I'd give BLU a try.       It has been a little over two weeks but I can honestly say that I've noticed a difference. I am sleeping more soundly and have stopped waking up at 3 or 4 AM just to lie there restlessly …

I want to start by saying that I do not have SAD. I do have chronic insomnia and was anxious to try this product out to see if there was any difference in my sleep patterns.    I am still not sleeping every night. On the nights I do manage to fall asleep, my sleep is deeper and more satisfying. I'm not as groggy and I do sleep straight through the night instead of waking up at 2am and being awake the rest of the night. There are still nights that I just don't sleep at all. I'm …

For the uninitiated in the world of light therapy devices (or "light boxes" as they're sometimes called), Apollo Health had for 20 years been the leader in the development and manufacture of these devices. Last December, however, Apollo Health's longstanding preeminence came to an end when it was acquired by Philips.    The Bluewave technology is the result of 10 years of R&D by Apollo Health. The predecessors to the current Philips goLITE were manufactured by Apollo Health. …

I decided to try this out of pure curiosity, and I'm usually a pretty mellow person but this seemed to bring out the happy in me more than usual. Dark mornings are no fun, but using this perks me up, even thinking about I feel a little pressure and weight come off, sunshine, even if electric blue can cure many things. Its nice to use before going to work, takes the grump off.    Expensive but nice to have, and the size of these gadgets has improved greatly form the times of my …

I was very excited about receiving this product because for as long as I can remember I have had problems battling "Old Man Winter" here in Northwest Ohio. I know I have SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder)and for several winters have went to a tanning bed once a week to receive light therapy. Now in my late 30's and noticing the skin damage done by tanning beds, this light therapy from Philips is certainly a better and healthier alternative that I can use everyday. The unit is very functional and …

I'd never tried anything like this before, and wondered if it might just be a gimmick. After several days of use I'm convinced it's no gimmick -- fifteen minutes of blue light directed towards my face (not in the eyes) while I'm reading really gives me a needed pickup. I use it in the morning when I wake up, and sometimes in the afternoon.     I don't expect it will be necessary all year round, but I do find that -- even though I live in Florida -- my moods tend to shift during …

Many people feel a little less energetic in the winter, while others get the winter blues. It has been shown that the decrease in natural sunlight may be the culprit in this seasonal change on our bodies. In fact, it has a name - Seasonal Affected Disorder (SAD).     The Philips goLITE BLU light is designed to help sufferers of SAD by mimicking the effect that the sun has on your body.     A few pointers - tips about the light (Many were not included in my …

I'd like to give you a little of my background first. I have lived in the Pacific Northwest all of my 32 years and I have become accustomed to short summers and long grey winters. The change I experience, usually beginning in late October, is noticeable to most everyone around me. I have a loss of energy, excitement and overall happiness. Quite often it has been suggested that I have S.A.D. and should look into treatment, either through medication or light therapy. My preference would be a permanent …
