We own a rebuilt 1984 Mustang that is a street legal drag car. I was in the market for an affordable CD/iPod player and this one came up at Amazon's Deal of the Day. First, I read all the reviews and came across this comment that was posted by another Amazon shopper:
RSRCHB4UBY posted: "Go to Crutchfield dot com, find this stereo, and select your car. Crutchfield shows that this radio fits your car. When you add it to the cart it will show what harness adapter you need."
Thanks RSRCHB4UBY for this information, it was extremely helpful in making my purchasing decision.
I went to the website and was pleased to find out I did not have to purchase the harness adapter. However, the website did mention that we may need to cut some of the dash out to get the radio to fit probably. Luckily for us we already had a radio mount in the car so the Pioneer DEH-200UB fit perfectly. My husband was able to install quickly it and easily. He had it up and playing in no time.
What I really love about the product is that it will connect with our iPod Nano and iPod Touch. You have the option of controlling the songs directly from the receiver or from the iPod. It recognizes the connection quickly. I sometimes do get the "Error 19" message which means I have to close iTunes and go back to the main screen on the iPod and reconnect the USB cable. Your iPod will even charge when connected!
However, I was really disappointed to found out that the receiver's USB slot does NOT work with the iPad. I got the dreaded "the connection is not supported" message on my iPad. I ended up ordering InCarCables Car Stereo Ipod/mp3 Auxiliary Aux-in Input Cable 3.5mm offered by Amazon, and I am able to listen to my music in my iPad through the auxiliary input. You just have to make sure that the volume is turned up on the iPad so the volume can be adjusted accordingly.
The receiver comes with an easy to follow manual. There are a ton of features so you can tune and setup the receiver to your likings. The buttons are a little on the small side but I just need to get a hand on memorizing what buttons do what. Keep the manual in the glove box because you will need to re-read sections for customizing the menu options. It is a lot of information to remember. The remote control is easy to navigate. I actually put a small velcro piece on the back of the remote and have it on my dash for easy access.
Pioneer is a reputable company that stands behind high quality electronics and would highly recommend this receiver (just make sure to check out Crutchfield dot com before you buy).
