"Please Please Me" remains one of rock's seminal recordings, timeless, raucous, and unparalleled for fun. The covers are amazing, particularly Lennon doing "Anna (Go to Him)" and then tearing his throat out with their spectacular version of "Twist and Shout." The originals are even more astonishing; the bluesy bounce of "Love Me Do" is every bit as exhilarating as it was in '62. Every Beatles album showcased a new phase of music--for them and often for popular music. "Please, Please Me", their debut, is unique: Most of their recordings are very slick and accomplished. This recording only represents the latter. It's hallmarks are well documented, however. The title track and their rendition of the Isley Brothers' "Twist and Shout," are unforgettable classics. The Beatles undoubtedly left an indellible mark on Rock N Roll music as we know it. This release features some good Lennon/McCartney tunes but is loaded with many covers. I Saw Her Standing There is a great song that still stands strong today. What a great solo not to mention Paul's vocals. Please Please Me and Do You Want To Know A Secret? are other standout originals. However the other originals(where certainly very listenable) fall short of the Beatles best work on such releases as Rubber Soul, …
