U2 followed their best album with a grand oddity recorded at the peak of their obsession with America: "Rattle and Hum," a sprawling, fiercely energized double album composed of new studio tracks and live recordings from their "Joshua Tree" tour. The band has rarely sounded more aware (or comfortable) with their status as the "biggest band in the world," but never have they seemed so deserving. Covers of sacred rock numbers like "Helter Skelter" and "All Along the Watchtower" sound shockingly true. …

'Rattle and Hum' ranks with the all time best live and double albums of rock and roll. Although there are a few mistakes with the tape acetate in the recording, giving it a shimmering effect that wasn't intended, it hardly mars this fabulous recording. The C.D. showcases the best of their music and harnesses it to a live performance. However, there are new studio recordings as well. Nothing is extraneous and much of it is hypnotic, powerful, or both.    There are worthy remakes …

I am really getting into the spirited tones of U2. Bono sings with so much passion and the band really alters their style throughout the record.     My two favorites on here are God Part II and Love Rescue Me. The vocals vary nicely between soft and loud on both tracks as you really can feel Bono's emotion as he sings the wrods. Van Diemans Land is another noteworthy tune that features The Edge on lead vocals. The cover tunes Helter Skelter and All Along The Watchtower sound …
