Country and bluegrass music icon Ricky Skaggs is releasing his new album “Music To My Ears” today. With 12 #1 hit singles and too many awards to count, Ricky is still on the top of his game writing, singing and playing right along side his amazing band Kentucky Thunder. He has released over 30 albums in his career and continues to tour regularly. On his latest project he has joined forces to produce the album with Grammy winner Gordon Kennedy. “Music To My Ears” features great musicianship and a sound that country and bluegrass fans alike will truly enjoy.
The 11-song album includes a few bluegrass classics mixed with a series of fresh new songs. Some lean more country, while others are bluegrass in its purest form. “Tennessee Stud” is a great story song that starts with Ricky giving a special tribute to Doc Watson. “You Can’t Hurt Ham” is one of my favorites on the album. With great country lyrics and a good easy rhythm you can’t help but smile along with this one. The title track “Music To My Ears” shows Ricky’s Christian roots, while showcasing just how perfectly is voice slides over a bluegrass tune. Another stand out song is the instrumental “New Jerusalem” written by Ricky. The song hooks you right from the start and makes you feel like you are sitting in the Ryman on a Saturday night.
If you love bluegrass you will love this album. However, I would definitely recommend it for country fans too. Ricky Skaggs has a way of drawing you in as he tells a story with his songs. This album shows that Ricky continues to challenge himself as an artist and that he just gets better as time goes along.
