this is a marvelous obscure EP, and i am confident you have not heard of this group or their short disc, so i want to tell you about it. Amesoeurs is a two-piece (Neige, who does vox, guitars, synth, bass, and drums; and Audrey Sylvain who does clean vocals) mostly plays what can be called, in the words of my compadre Mr. Smith, "a mix of black metal and shoegaze." his description may not make sense at first, but it is ultra-apropos after you hear it. shoegaze is just a more intense variant of so-called "dream pop", where the emphasis is more ethereal, textural sound -- yet this music is necro production, buzz-saw black metal riffs and blastbeasts and screaming that sounds like an eviscerated troll. but the music is kinda slow-motion compared to a lot of blasty black metal. there are breaks with beautiful driving riffs and some acoustic guitar bits too. the third track "Feblesse des Sens" is a gorgeous power ballad with lovely female vocals that builds to a soaring climax with impassioned screams, a melodic guitar lead with with the primal sound of a BM solo, and buzzing distortion arrangement. The only fault you can say is that it is not enough, only three songs -- but as far as EPs go, this is better some some full-length, quality black metal in my collection. please release a full-length soon, Amesoeurs!!
if you ever listened to a black metal and thought it was beautiful (and i'd say there're quite a few albums that could do that), you must absolutely hear this group. amazing. unfortunately i must return this cd to Mr. Smith because i have had it for months and need my own copy.
