Sangria is a type of wine punch common to Spain and Portugal but served throughout the world. In both countries' languages, sangria means "bloody."
Sangria is typically made from the same basic ingredients, although regional variations are common. Ingredients usually include: wine (usually red, but white sangria is not uncommon), sliced/chopped fruits, a sweetener, additional liquors (brandy, triple sec, etc), and sometimes carbonated water or Sprite.
The drink is usually ordered as a pitcher or carafe and is served in small glasses.
