Probably one of the Morgaine novels. Beware of Changeling!

i've only read the Faded Sun Trilogy (so far), so out of the three books, it would have to be the first one, Kesrith, as it established the universe for the trilogy. I truly enjoyed the way Cherryh built the worlds, customs and cultures throughout.
