Scotch tape has been around since 1945, but as for the desk top dispenser I really do not have any idea how long that this has been in existence. Yet, whenever I go into any office I usually see one of these dispensers on top of the desk. We purchased our desk top model C-38 several years ago for right around five dollars at our local Staples store.

Description
We have two of these and one of them is red and the other is black. They each hold one roll of 1500" of scotch tape. These dispensers can hold rolls of tape that are ½" and ¾" wide. Inside each of these dispensers is sand to make them heavy enough so that they do not slip on the desk top. They put two non-slip pads that are 1 3/8" x 1 ¾" wide. The overall dimensions are 6" high x 2 ½" high x 1 ¾" wide and only weighs 1 pound 1 ounce. There is a round cylindrical sprocket that has a small point that will be able to insert into the center hole in the roll of tape, this will hold the roll of tape in place so that you can have one handed operation without the dispenser slipping on the desk or table top.

Experience
Before this dispenser came along we always had to use two hands or get the help from one of our kids to help with all of our projects. A lot of projects that we have done is scrapbooking, gift wrapping, any repairs, shipping, moving boxes, and any storage boxes.

If you need any strip of tape longer then you will still have to have an extra hand to tear it from the roll even with this dispenser. But, if you are wrapping presents for the holidays or a birthday present then the short strips that you need can be torn from this dispenser with just a slight pull either from the right or left side. The sand inside of this will do most of the holding, and as long as you do not get greedy in the amount that you need then the tape will tear off of the roll with ease. There is also a very sharp jagged edge the will stay sharp for as long as your own your dispenser.

Our dispensers have made it through years of service and they have outperformed all of the individual plastic tape holders that usually come built around the other brand name rolls of tape. Once a roll of tape becomes empty, it is better for the landfills and better for your pocket book. It is a lot cheaper and easier to replace and purchase a simple roll of this kind of tape rather that the ones that come built inside of a plastic holder.

Conclusion

I can highly recommend purchasing a dispenser of this type and you will never go back to using that other kind again. These have never broken since there are only two parts to the whole thing.
