Savannah Grace introduces me to a new word with the title of this book. A sihpromatum is a blessing that seems like a curse in the beginning. This is a great word to add to my vocabulary. I will look at every new experience as a sihpromatum from now on. The title of the book is the hook that caused me to read it. Savannah Grace spent two months travelling through China and Mongolia as a fourteen year old girl. She recorded her experiences on an online blog. She has crafted this fascinating memoir using those blog entries. I have never been to China or Mongolia. I would like to try some of the activities that Savannah describes in this book. I love to take a mud bath in the caves of China. I would love to visit the Great Wall of China. I learned the bricks that formed the Great Wall were made of rice. I never thought that Mongolia would be a country that I would like to visit, but Savannah changes my opinion of the country. I would love to attend a festival in Mongolia that celebrates horse racing, ball room dancing and rap music. I would also enjoy riding wild horses and camels through the Gobi Desert. Savannah describes unusual foods that she ate. I don't know if I would try roasted gopher or fermented horse milk, but these foods sound intriguing. This book is the first volume of Savannah's travels. I look forward to reading other books by Savannah Grace in the future.
