Jen Lancaster returns with a diet memoir only she could have written. I first found Jen on her blog, Jennsylvania.com, during her early days before Bitter Is The New Black. She has one of the most distinctive and original voices in memoir today. If you ever need a good laugh and a sympathetic shoulder pad, Jen's your girl. Her blog eventually earned her a book deal, and she hasn't looked back since. I love to read her books on long flights - people always ask me what I'm laughing so hard at!
Having struggled with weight issues my whole life, I could relate to much of Such A Pretty Fat. Jen goes through the motions of trying to lose weight on her own, joining Weight Watchers, and facing the gym (Barbie the trainer is worth the price of this book alone!). Being a freelance writer, she has more than her share of freedom and less than of support . She has some success, some defeat, but learns a whole lot about herself in the process - which is what most anyone who deals with weight issues discovers (eventually). I, for one, hope Jen never stops writing. She's the voice of a couple of generations and tells it like it is (even when it's not Pretty).
