Many people don't realize that cats and dogs can get sunburned, too!  It happens more often than many people realize.

Some signs that your dog or cat has been in the sun too long are red or tender nose, ears or stomach, or the edges of their ears get dry, cracked or curl.  This can be dangerous for your pets -- if they spend a lot of time out in the sun without access to shade, they can get really painful burns.

Here are a few natural pet (and people) sunburn remedies that can help:

• Rub Aloe Vera on the burned areas.  You can use either an Aloe Vera plant or a cream
• Apply vitamin E oil to sunburned noses once or twice a day.  (You can use vitamin E oil capsules and just rub the oil from the capsule on them)
• If their skin is really dry around the nose or ears, use a moisturizer that has coconut or jo-joba oil twice a day.  (Actually, plain old garden variety petroleum jelly works, too)
• Witch hazel is great for cooling inflamed skin without the alcohol sting.  Apply it with a with a cotton ball 3-4 times per day

But the best solution of all is to prevent it from happening in the first place!  Keep them cool, well-watered, and make sure they have a shady place on those hot sunny days.
