What happens if you mix Glee, gospel music, and country music?  I think that I what happens from the first note on "Take the High Road" by The Blind Boys from Alabama.  The idea of this CD began when Jamey Johnson heard this group sing at an Alabama Music Hall of Fame induction ceremony.  He soon signed on as a co-producer of the album.  There was no pre-planning for this CD.  All of the magic happened right in front of the microphone!  Many collaborations occur on this album including Jamey Johnson, Lee Ann Womack, Vince Gill, Willie Nelson, and more!  The harmonies and music performed bring you to the deep south gospel churches.  This group does everything from the energy driven songs like "Take the High Road" to slower, attention grabbing songs like "Have Thine Own Way, Lord" feat. Jamey Johnson.  This CD definitely showcases the band's eclectic way of singing.
  • "Have Thine Own Way, Lord" feat. Jamey Johnson - Something special occurred when co-producer stepped into the booth with the Blind Boys.  Jamey sings lead on the classic track with a choir in the back.  From the first note on the piano, the emotion and music just take hold and take you to a special place.  The acappella ending to the song send chills down my spine ever time I hear the song!  This is definitely the stand out track from the CD!
  • "Family Bible" feat. Willie Nelson - Willie Nelson joins the group for Willie's song "Family Bible."  You get the feeling of almost jumping back in time with how this song has been recorded.  The lead vocals by Willie Bring you back to when he first started his career and the harmonies in the back by the Blind Boys only enhance the song.  The message behind the song is moving enough, but once the vocals are layered, this song is taken to another level!
For a good throwback gospel album, I would definitely go buy this CD.  You will not be disappointed by what you hear.
