The film was Turkey's official submission for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film at the 80th Academy Awards, but it was not nominated.

Being Ordinary Makes One Extraordinary
   It is quite curious that a film about a certain religious sect would be directed by Ozer Kilitan, someone who has declared that he is a man who doesn’t believe in God. This little detail had aroused my curiosity. “Takva: A Man’s Fear of God” has both been condemned and praised by religious sects according to the director.
