I found this colorful, ethnic jewelry line while perusing Anthropologie.com for holiday gifts. Of course the chunky statement pieces instantly drew my attention, but when I read about the company that facilitates the creation of this line, I was all the more interested in making a purchase.

Created by Designer Beth Schaeffer, The Bluma Project is a line of textiles and jewelry crafted by women's cooperatives in Rwanda and Ghana. The project was developed  to aid women who have survived genocide in Rwanda and facilitate a sustainable lifestyle for women in both countries by providing jobs and income to support their families.  Their creations are a beautiful tribute to the gorgeous mix of color and fabric traditionally seen in these cultures.

Right now this jewelry is sold exclusively at Anthropologie stores, abcstore.com, and in the UK.
I've seen quite a few colorful paper bead lines made in African countries, but what I enjoy about this one (and what makes it different) is that these beads are not just used for bracelets and necklaces, but for home products as well. In addition the use of colorful fabrics adds product variety to the jewelry line, creating a unique look. The price point for this product line is also extremely affordable.

Check out a few of my favorite pieces:
