Sunshine Psychedelia never sounded so sweet.

The Cowsills are a sunshine psychedelic pop band from the late 60's through the early 70's. During their highest popularity The Cowsills scored a few top 40 hits such as "The Rain, The Park and Other Things" (number 2) "We Can Fly" (number 21) "Indian Lake "(number 10) and "Hair" (number 2).Their debut album "The Cowsills" was the bands only Top 40 record (number 31).  During this time they became a part of Americana appearing in milk commercials and performing on several t.v. shows such as American Bandstand, Ed Sullivan and The Johnny Cash Show.  Like most "singles" bands, their records didn't sell very well.  The older Cowsill brothers slowly took control of the band and even started to write most of the songs.  But the one album that really sunk the band was II x II a concept album about the second coming didn't chart at all.

I really love The Cowsills.  Their harmonious vocals and sweet melodies are like Prozac on disc.  No matter what subject they sing about it always sounds so cheerful and it always brings a smile upon my face.  I like the albums "We Can Fly" and "II X II".  Today, the band is down to the three younger siblings (Susan, Bob and Paul).  This current line-uo recorded a new album a few years ago and they still tour the oldies circuit.  I hope to catch them live soon.  If you love ABBA (and who doesn't) then you'll really dig The Cowsills.

I thoroughly agree with your assessment. It was music that was fun to listen. The Cowsills had a couple of local hits here in Rhode Island before they burst onto the national scene. Thanks for remembering!
