I stayed here after purchasing the LivingSocial deal earlier this year. The package was $99 for a one night in their King Executive Suite that included a $50 credit to the hotel's restaurant. Pretty sweet deal!
All in all, there was not much to complain about The Hanford Hotel -- the place is nice, and the rooms are very comfortable. It is extremely easy to find, and it the feel for the hotel is very classy. There is not really much to do in the OC late night, though -- so if you're looking to get away for the weekend, expect things to be closed early. I should have known this before booking, but this is in no part anything against the hotel. They have a shuttle that can take you to places that are nearby, such as the South Coast Plaza which is just down the street. And their pool looks really fun, too.
As other reviews say, the staff is super friendly too. I feel like they could be more efficient, though. I had to scramble through my emails on my phone to pull up the voucher number, though I thought all of that was taken care of when I called in to reserve the hotel. When checking in, the person checking us in wanted to know which suite I booked, and what time I wanted to eat breakfast -- though this wasn't part of the living social deal. Then, they let me know that there was two living social deals, and asked me which one I had. I thought this was kind of weird to ask a customer which deal they had, because it made me feel like there was a chance I got ripped off by not getting the better deal of the two. When we clarified which deal we had, they gave me the impression that I was an inconvenience walking in and not mentioning that. =/
The service at the restaurant is super slow, too. So if you're trying to grab a quick bite, plan on being there for a while. I got the feeling that the people that worked there were either new, or inexperienced -- since I doubt that the place ever worked at full/busy capacity. When I presented my voucher to the waiter, he asked if I had the TripZoo package. Again, making me feel like I got ripped off! But the food was super good though, once it came. I highly recommend the Three Seas appetizer plate, the Blackened Mahi Mahi sandwich, or the pizzas. Our $50 voucher got us far! It took two meals to use it up. All in all, prices were decent.
This hotel is good for people who are in the OC for business or Disneyland, but not so great if you're local and trying to get away for the weekend. You might as well as hit up LB or LA. The decor and the food is good, and the rooms give good value. The service is friendly, but could be more efficient. I don't think I would stay here again, but would probably recommend it on certain circumstances.
