A movie made in end 2011 about the life of Aung San Suu Kyi which stars Michelle Yeoh. I watched it on my flight from Singapore to Hong Kong just last week. Am surprised to not find the movie here on Lunch. I guess most people either don't know about this movie or haven't watched it since it's not really an American production.
Myanmar, or Burma to America, is currently the hot country to visit in 2012. It recently opens its doors and we see a huge influx of travelers and businessmen visiting the country. When I first visited less than a decade ago, it was still a very quiet and un-commercialized country. Now, it's fast changing. Politically, it's something akin to Iran, North Korea and Cuba to the American government. Aung San Suu Kyi had changed that over the years. This is a movie about the process and fight for democracy in Burma. It is also about the first Asian woman who won the Nobel Peace Prize. Worth watching!
