As humans there is so much that, we take for granted money, clothes, food, a warm bed to sleep in, and our home. There is so much that we do not realize that we are blessed to have that sometimes we just overlook all this and never give it a second thought. We never give it a second thought until we either have lost it or have had someone take it all away in the blink of an eye. Then we have to live on the streets scrounging and scouring for everything we need to survive we feel miserable about it , we feel as though we have lost everything we know and now are reduced to nothing more that a common street urchin. Some either commit suicide, some die from the cold, starvation killed on the streets for what ever we have. It is sad to see these things happen to people however, they do happen not just here in the U.S.A. but all over the world, it is a sad thing to hear stories about things like this. Just recently I read a story about a homeless man in New York City who jumped in to save a woman from being attacked he saved the woman, scarred off her attacker but in the process was stabbed and he was subsequently left to die on the streets alone. The story does not end there. He did not die instantly it took him awhile to die and all the while people passed him by looking at him. Some took pictures, others just walked on by like he was not even there and one stopped to see if he was still alive shook him then walked away If I remember correctly it took maybe a few hours for the man to die from his wound. After the last man, the one who shook him then walked away, past someone called 911 and the ambulance arrived on the scene a few hours to late to help him. In This short film based on the short story "The Little Matchgirl" by "Little Mermaid", author Hans Christian Anderson it tells a similar but widely different story of a poor young girl who in the dead of winter in what appears to be 1900's Europe is trying desperately to sell six little matches she has in her possession. She tries for hours but to no avail, no one seems interested in buying a match so the little girl goes off into an alley to try to stave off the cold air using her matches.

Roger Allers' "Little Match Girl" is a heart breaking and beautiful looking animated short that has the heart of a feature yet the quite subtleties of an animated masterpiece like "The Little Mermaid"(1989) also directed by Roger Allers. "Beauty and the Beast (the first animated film ever to be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture), "UP"(The Second animated film to ever be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture). This six minute short film has the emotional resonance of all these full length films while still maintaining a small yet subdued atmosphere throughout. This is a superbly made animated short that defines what being an animated film is about "The Little Match Girl" is a marvel a true gem amongst animated shorts and has rightfully earned the title of being called great. This marvelous, imaginative short film defines what it means to be a short film.

Thank you very much. And let me tell you that this is one of the saddest animated films I have ever seen and its only six minutes long!!! The emotions in this short film are just pitch perfect and they hit all the right notes this is truly a masterpiece of filmmaking and it well deserves the Oscar nomination it received. I also included the short film in my review so you can give it a look.
