This is not a book about Satan. This is a book about you.   In this book, Anton LaVey does not mold himself into some Alleister Crowley-esque figure, but rather paints a picture of a radical new philosophy of self-interest. With dabblings of Randian Objectivism, a good sized chunk of no-holds-barred individualism, and some classicist Greco-Roman ideas of indulgence and epicureanism thrown in, LaVey speaks not from a place of hokey-pokey god-or-devil worship, but rather moreso as a philosopher. …

Now satanism has influenced and improved my life over  the past few years, which is a shock as I was born and raised a hard core christian.      The Satanic Bible gave me initial food for thought, and I learned and developed independently from there, both as a Satanist and as a general human being. Read the Bible and you will learn repentance, deny yourself and take care of the necessity of people (who wants to suffer?). Read the Satanic bible and learn to worship yourself and do for people just what reflects on your benefits (everybody seek for pleasure). Satan has the best weapon for our society, our ego. Read this book to make up your void. But remember, there will be an end and two paths.

It is an excellent read, but it falls short on many philosophical grounds. The moral concepts it presents are thought provoking, but inconsistent.

Love him or hate him, you have to give credit to Anton Szandor LaVey for exposing some of Christianity's hypocrisies.

Not to be confused for a religious text. While I don't share the author's philosophy or its political implications, it's an interesting read. Of course, if the title alone immediately repulses you - even though it's NOT about Satanic worship - then you probably won't like it, anyway.
