Great look into the Hawaii that you don't see

  • Jun 19, 2010

This is a great book for readers who want to look at the "other" side of Hawaii. A lot of people see Hawaii as paradise and are not aware of what really goes on in Hawaii. In "The Tattoo" it follows a man who lives in a town called Kahalu'u on the windward side of Oahu.

The book has a lot of Hawaii slangs that you hear, here in Hawaii.

I definitely would recommend this book to more of the mature readers because of the language used and also the events that happens throughout the book. There is violence and swearing, but it is for the better good of the story.
This story shows a bond between a tattooist and his client, like how a client opens up to his tattooist. Which is true because when you are sitting in the chair being tattooed, you tend to talk to your tattooist to pass the time.
Chris McKinney allows his readers to see different areas in Oahu. A lot of the landmarks he uses are real and you can go to visit those places. His characters are fictional but to some readers in Oahu they may see some similarities of the characters in their own friends or even themselves. He captured a typical local from Oahu that they don’t show in movies and also the ones that you hardly ever hear of.
I think people should definitely read this book if you like suspense and drama, the events that happen will definitely keep you in your seat wanting to read more.
