The Week's slogan is "All you need to know about everything that matters" - which is pretty much exactly what it is. Summarizing articles from the best media over the course of a given week, The Week provides 60 pages of highly readable topics, perfect for an hour on a Sunday morning. Friends often comment on how 'well-read' I am (ha!) and now I'm giving up my secret - no, I don't watch every news program and read every newspaper, I just keep up with The Week!

First published in the UK, the Stateside edition is a couple of years old now and keeps a well-balanced focus between domestic and international issues. Covering top news stories, arts reviews, best recipes, obituaries, houses on the market, quotes of the week - every page has something of interest and it's unusual for me to skip any part of it.

The Week doesn't really have a political point of view - it's designed more as a briefing and represents the general opinions of the media. The only editorialized paragraph is on the first page and tends to offer a insightful spin on the major events going on. It's also blissfully light on advertising, and at $50/year the subscription is hardly going to break the bank.

I've been a follower of The Week since day one - it smart, succinct and well done. Check out their website at http://theweek.com for a taste of their style - but for the real deal you need the hard cover, a cup of coffee and an hour free with the cell phone turned off.

Awesomeness, thanks for sharing.  This sounds like Bottom Line Personal, except the news version of it.  I'll check out the website to stay in touch with the world! :)

Ultimately, I see a version of this where everything is boiled down to a single tweet: "Copenhagen didn't work; more bailouts; Avatar A+; consumer spending -1.4%". :-)
