Folk album by Amy Macdonald

Amy MacDonald is that proverbial old head on young shoulders, a Scottish singer-songwriter who, despite her tender 19 years, writes songs with the grace, wisdom, and proficiency of one with a score more on the clock. As influenced by the Libertines as … see full wiki

With a throaty voice that falls somewhere between Jewel and K.T. Oslin, Amy Macdonald's debut, "This Is The Life," is a mixed bag of wonderful tunes and mild mishaps. The best tracks on this album are the most subdued ones. "The Youth of Today" and "Run" show that this Scottish lass can belt out Brit-soul with the best of them. Other tunes, however, show a very repetitive nature to Macdonald's sound. "Mr. Rock & Roll" and "Poison Prince" are two good examples. This is either due to the heavy production …

This album was a big surprise to me. I'd never heard of Amy Macdonald before I received this promo Album to review. I receive quite a lot of CDs to review, but this one definitely set itself apart.     Amy has this amazing distinctive Scottish voice... although I have to say that she sounds a bit Irish to me too. The music is a catchy complex layered mix of elements from country, folk, rock, and some modern elements thrown in. It's raw, acoustic, warm, subtle, deep and edgy at …

Amy MacDonald has crafted an excellent folk rock album. Originally released in her native UK, Amy's album is now being released in the American market where it may fare well with indie rock audiences. Her voice is well-suited to this musical style and these songs have solid lyrics and pleasant melodies. Amy's got a flexible voice that easily shifts between rock-oriented and ballad-oriented folk styles. Some tracks are more upbeat and energetic while others are slower, while I found all of the tracks …

My daughter asked me what kind of music this was supposed to be (she has a very negative opinion of this album). I couldn't really classify it, it's not country, rock, pop or any other particular type of music. The best I could say is "ballad". However the lyrics seem to be random phrases sung together with no real story (there are some snippets that do make sense).    The instruments are well played and sound good.    "This is the Life" is eleven very unremarkable …

Young Amy Macdonald is no stranger to millions of fans in Europe as she is a 2 time platinum selling and award winning artist. She started playing guitar and writing music/lyrics at 12 in Scotland, gigging at 15 and the rest is history, albeit a brief one so far. The 1st US release, which hits the street on August 19th, 2008, titled, "This Is The Life" has an acoustic folk/pop sound starts out well with the tunes, "Mr. Rock & Roll", the title song, "This Is The Life" and "Poison Prince" which very …

Having achieved great success in the UK with this, her debut album, Amy MacDonald seeks to make an impact in the US, releasing the album a few days before her 21st birthday. Oddly, she embarks at the same time on a European tour, rather than a US tour. Surely her compatriot Craig Ferguson would have given her a slot on his show?    Amy is a pretty, likeable and very earnest Scottish singer/songwriter who does not seem to have much to protest about but who is determined not to …
