February 28th Craig Morgan will release his new album “This Ole Boy.” We haven’t heard new music from Craig in 3 years and he is back, and in my opinion, better than ever. After listening to the album just one time I already felt like it was an old friend. It was relatable and had a down home kind of feel. This is his first album on his new label Black River Entertainment and Craig definitely gave more than just his voice to the new project. He co-produced the album with Phil O’Donnell along with co-writing 7 out of the 12 tracks.

The title track, “This Ole Boy,” is Craig’s current single. If you haven’t heard this one yet I have a feeling you will soon. It is an enjoyable song with a great beat. I have listened to it over and over and it always leaves me with a smile. Another up beat and cleaver song is “Corn Star.” It is unique and has some pretty witty lines that will leave you singing along. The whole album is solid. It consists of one good song after another. After listening a few times I came to the realization that I couldn’t just pick one favorite.

“Whole World Needs a Kitchen” is an engaging song. It has a meaningful message that makes you think about family. Songs like this just reaffirm why I love country music. It was somewhat reminiscent of “That’s What I Love About Sunday” which is one of my favorites by Craig Morgan. “Love Loves A Long Night” has a slightly different sound for Craig that I think he pulled off quite well. It makes you want to grab somebody and slow dance. A stand out track, “Being Alive and Living” has what I like to call “makes you think lyrics.” I like the significance as well as the conviction in Craig’s voice as he shares it with the listener. This album most certainly has the potential to produce a few singles. One song I can see radio grabbing hold of is, “More Trucks Than Cars” this is the type of song we have come to expect from Craig. It has his signature sound and a patriotic shout out to our military men and women.

There are a few things about this album that really stand out. First of all many of the songs tell a perfect story in their less than 4 minute time frame. Each song painted a portrait in my mind.  A mark of a good song is when you not only hear the story, but also are able to see it too. This album has a lot of typical country themes such as trucks, country boys, fishing, and love. However, I still found all the tracks to be original. They are unlike many songs that are out on radio today making this CD a breath of fresh air.

Craig Morgan is certainly no stranger to the music scene. He is a familiar voice to country fans everywhere and has had his share of hits over the years.  With that said, this album is his best yet. If you are already a Craig fan you are absolutely going to LOVE LOVE LOVE this album. If you don’t have any of Craig’s other projects in your CD collection “This Old Boy” most certainly should be something you download or go out and pick up. Well done Craig, well done!
