Tim O'Shields > Wiki

The debut self-titled CD: Tim O'Shields, is a collection of original Contemporary/New Age Piano Solos. The music has been described as complex and engaging, as well as music for relaxing. It has been said that this music touches the soul. A former environmental chemist, Tim O'Shields is following his passion of music and the piano in writing and performing his music. Album Notes: 1. THE ASCENT-Inspired by physically climbing a mountain-the upward climb as the ASCENT and the return journey down the hill. The piece is also a metaphor for climbing the mountains of life, with the up's and down's. This piece has been described as a flavor of Americana. It opens with a fanfare, progresses up the hill, celebrates the accomplishment at the top, and follows the return to the base. 2. MOUNTAIN HOME-Inspired by living in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado at 9,000 elevation. The beauty of the seasons, the trees, and moonlit nights on glistening new snow inspired this gentle melody. 3. ALONG THE RIDGE-Inspired by the early morning aspenglow that makes a deep, golden band 'along the ridge' of Hick's Mountain and Mount Judge as viewed from my Colorado home. I am often playing the piano before the sun rises and the start of my day is energized with the first hints of aspenglow that I can see from my piano bench. A new day--new opportunities! 4. FLIGHT OF THE WIND-An homage to the mystery and power of the unbelievable winds that are often experienced at 9,000 ft elevation in the Rocky Mountains. I envision a single leaf taking flight in the powerful wind thoughout the piece. The single leaf is joined by a swarm of leaves as they swirl through the air. 5. FIRST LIGHT-Inspired by the first hint of light in the Eastern sky and the promise of a new day. 6. SECRET PLACE-We all need that special place where we can get away from the world- everyone and everything to relax, ponder, meditate, retrieve, or just chill. 7. COUNTRY WALK-Inspired by a long, relaxing walk along a rural trail. 8. MEADOW DANCE-A light melody that symbolizes dance and celebration in a meadow. It is a metaphor for the good times in life when you feel like celebrating and dancing. 9. PASSING STORM-This piece follows a storm from its humble beginnings to a thunder storm with heavy rains. The jagged patterns of the melody in the middle of the piece symbolize the jagged patterns of lightning. The storm builds and ulimately passes. It goes out with the same gentleness as its beginnings. 10. GENTLE RAIN-You can hear the drops of rain in this piece as they begin as single drops to a gentle rain shower that brings renewal to the land. 11. FORGOTTEN MELODY--I played around with this melody and had it in my head. Then, I forgot it. I tried my best to remember, but it had escaped my memory. One day, some months later, it came back to my memory and my fingers. 12. HALLELUJAH!-There is always an occasion to proclaimHallelujah! 13. SOULS RISING-This piece was inspired by the 9-11 Memorial at the World Trade Center Site in New York City. The beauty, symbolism, and powerfully reverant site brought this melody to my heart. It is a simple melody and a bit hymn-like. With the cascade of water at the Memorial in those magnificent pools in the footprints of the original World Trade Center Towers, I feel the presence of those mighty souls that were tragically lost on that day. Their souls are forever rising as we never forget them or their families and loved ones.
