Curse you, Star Wars, for making deals with companies like Topps and producing items that fuel my collector's fire! I've been a very good boy on the collecting front lately, having ceased my collection of Star Wars Battlepods for a couple of months now.
But what should I stumble upon in the store last night while looking at toys with my son? Topps Star Wars Dog Tags with Collector Cards! I immediately had to grab one, just one, to see what all the hoopla was about.
The packs are blind, so I had no idea if I was holding a Darth Maul, Luke Skywalker, Boba Fett, or Darth Vader tag. I was praying that I hadn't snagged an Anakin Skywalker or Count Dooku, as they aren't my favorite characters in the Star Wars saga. I couldn't wait to get to the car and rip open my newest addiction. I was so excited. Silly, I know, for a man who had just recently passed the thirty-six year mark to be so recklessly giddy about a silly dog tag.
Well, as luck would have it, I grabbed a middle-of-the-road Yoda tag. He's not my favorite character, but he isn't terrible either. My son liked it well enough and my daughter called dibs on any Padme tags I might acquire in the future.
These tags have actually been out for over a year now, so the odds of me collecting all twenty-four that are available are slim. However, that doesn't mean I won't be skulking around comic shops and my local Target (where I grabbed Yoda) to find more of these wonderfully addictive tags.
If you're a Star Wars fan, you might want to look into grabbing some of these. They are actually very cool looking and come with a collector card that features the same photo of the character like the one on the tag itself.
I have absolutely no need to collect more stuff, but stinkin' Star Wars makes it so easy for me to get more and more things!
