the most compelling sport on TV-The Tour de France

I admit to being in a tiny minority but I am sick of televised TV pro sports. But I am hooked on the Tour. There is little action, it goes on for hours, the commentators talk non-stop, the ending is anti-climatic but it is amazing. The route changes every year, the teams change but the constant is the excitement, the beauty, the athleticism (or conditioning) of the riders. The fans jamming the route add a sense of participation not seen in any other pro sport. And if there is doping-who cares? I can't get started without caffeine every day. Riding is the working class sport but can be enjoyed by all except most of the riders whose pain is evident. Try watching a segment if you get Versus from your cable provider. And don't miss the final day-a thrill if you have ever been to Paris.

Agree about professional sports being overrated, but not quite sold on cycling. I prefer college basketball. It will be interesting if Lance can stay close however...

Thanks for your review. I'm a big Tour de France fan as well. I grew up watching Greg LeMond win the Tour three times and thought he was amazing. Most people don't recognize just how exciting and dangerous this race/sport is. Plus, the scenery is beautiful!
