Amazing dairy free dessert comparable to gelato!

"Wow this stuff is good!"

That was my initial impression. I am not a big ice cream fan, but when I tried gelato I instantly fell in love. It was a sad day when I found out I will not be able to have dairy for about a year because of my infant's milk protein allergy. Of course, again and again, Trader Joe's comes to the rescue! I discovered Soy Creamy about 3 months ago. I am in love with the Mango Vanilla flavor. They also have Cherry Chocolate Chip, Vanilla, and Chocolate flavors.

Consuming too much soy is not recommended, but this is a great treat and I don't eat it everyday. $3.50 for a quart is not a big price to pay considering that would only be two scoops of gelato at my local Dolce Freddo Gelato (an amazing place!). So great value and great taste along with texture that is almost as good as a fresh gelato. Plus a bonus: it is vegan.

What about the taste? It is very sweet. But, what makes it just right is the combination with mango. The mango side is almost like a sherbet and has a sour tint to it. So when you combine the sour mango and sweet vanilla, your taste buds will feel the burst of flavor! I always try to have both mango and vanilla in my spoon when I eat it, it has a nice balance that way. The texture of the vanilla is a lot more ice creamy than the mango, but again, the textures mix in an interesting way. You really have to try it to know what it tastes like, it is hard to describe.

The ingredients I would not categorize as healthy, although at least the soy milk is organic - and you know that is important if you are aware of how soy is grown and harvested. Organic corn syrup seems to be an oxymoron. But like I said, if this is a treat that you eat no more than once or twice a week, it won't kill you. Everything in moderation. Give it a try, I have never regretted it and hope you will not either!

Don't think I can get this brand where I'm right now but I'll check it out next time I'm in America. What I do get now is Durian Gelato. Boy, that's sinfully good & I've been putting on weight since! Will have to go on diet soon!!! Real soon! Before that, it's lunch time! :-)

Mmmm, I've got to try some Durian sometime, despite @devora's essay on how stinky it is!
