When trust breaks down...

  • Dec 30, 2011
That was the premise of the last movie I watched some weeks ago. White Vengeance, a film about an event in China some 2000+ years ago. We all know trust is crucial and essential, not just between humans but also very much so in the entire animal kingdom.

So, what exactly happens when trust breaks down?
Divorces, protests and revolutions. They are rampant now in this world of ours. Oh, sometimes it's conveniently attributed to some autocratic rulers while at other times, it's the imbalances of finances in relationships that created tensions. Most importantly, when trust breaks down, nothing can save the day!
Now, what kind of trust is being broken down then?
Trust in government, in the financial system and trust in our loved ones (for some people) are at problematic levels now. The ultimate will be a dissolution of society and family structures in many parts of the world.

Hence, one can't help but ask what trust entails?
They say one should not put a relationship to the test. I tend to agree with that from past experiences. Trust is something that takes a long time to build up but can be destroyed in a few mere seconds. That's probably misplaced trust. Nonetheless, despite the tendency to place love, faith and friendship in the spotlight, underlying these is the most important of all, trust!

A person who can trust easily is one lucky person! If despite many (or few) betrayals and disappointments, he/she still learn to trust or is able to trust another easily, then he/she is not an idiot but is the blessed one. Trust is what we need for our society to function smoothly. If you think hard enough, you know trust is something we humans cannot live without. If 2012 is indeed a year of instabilities and the end days (as some claimed), then the one thing we as individuals need to do is to learn how to trust people around us and in our society. That more than anything may be able to save the day & this world of ours!!!
