Tweetie, the desktop Mac client that lets you stay connected but still get stuff done

You can download and use tweetie for free for as long as you want in an ad-supported version (much like twitteriffic), which is more than fair since the paid version will run you about $20.

I switched to Tweetie from Tweet Deck, the much heralded Adobe Air-based twitter client that is probably most famous for being able to separate your followers into groups and its facebook integration that allows you to read your contacts' status updates alongside you twitter feed. I don't follow so many people to really need the groups, but I like Tweetie way better so far.

If you've used a desktop twitter client, you've probably noticed one thing - they all make use of growl notifications, providing you with a visual and sometimes auditory cue when you've got unread tweets, @mentions, or direct messages. Tweetie doesn't have growl notifications (at least not yet) which I'm kind of thrilled about because I check my twitter feed with much less frequency and am actually able to get what little work I have, done in a timely fashion without constantly being distracted. Instead, there's a little menu bar icon that lights up when there are new messages.

Other notable features: Threaded direct messages/conversations, really handy for catching up on what you missed and it looks great in the chat-like interface. Drill down user details as well as the ability to check if someone's following you back. Like most apps and web pages, there's also an available bookmarklet to share links with one single click. Easy trends search, and the ability to open those searches in a separate window.

It's definitely worth checking out if you're getting sick of the resource-hogging Adobe Air twitter clients on the market.

This is a big help, Thanks!  I have TweetDeck on my MAC and I have been noticing that it is very glitchy. I'm going to have to try Tweetie! Thanks!

I've just gotten the hang of using Twitter apps, so many thanks for this review! Twitter was definitely my friend through my period of twentysomething semi-employment. Have you heard of Blellow?

No, I haven't heard of it, but I'll definitely check it out. Sounds promising.

Let me know how you like it. From what I've heard from @Keter512, it's a bit like Twitter, but it's main purpose is to help out freelancers. It'd be great if it works!
