The 90's were a big deal for me. Not only did I graduate from high school during that decade, I graduated from college as well. That meant that I had access to a vehicle with a radio (that I had control of) and loads of CDs as well during that entire ten year period. I spent a lot of my time listening to music while studying, hanging out with friends, and going out.
This CD, "Retro 90's," features sixteen of the biggest hits of the 1990's. It focuses on pop and pop rock hits and includes songs that span the entire decade. Giant's "I'll See You In My Dreams" is actually from their 1989 album "Last of the Runaways," but wasn't released as a single until 1990. It, along with 1997's "Kiss the Rain" by Billie Myers, were the only two songs on the disc that I didn't recognize at first until listening to them.
Highlights include the wonderful "I've Been Thinking About You" by Londonbeat, "Breakfast at Tiffany's" by Deep Blue Something, and Semisonic's "Closing Time."
Of course, a few songs in this collection started out as big hits but were played into oblivion by radio stations. "Tubthumping" by Chumbawamba and "MMM Bop" by Hanson are probably the two songs on this collection that most perfectly fit this description. Still, it was nice to hear them again since it's been quite awhile since I heard them on the air.
With songs by Sister Hazel, Gin Blossoms, 4 Non Blondes, Ugly Kid Joe, and plenty of other 90 popsters, "Retro 90's" is sure to have something to please just about any person who listened to the radio in the 90's. If you remember when dial-up Internet service was a big deal, you'll probably enjoy this collection of tunes. Highly recommended.
