Later in the middle ages and into the Victorian era, the devil was synonymous with all evil, including vampires. Here the devil is portrayed as a winged demon with horns and cloven feet. Note that the serpent is also present in this picture, which would suggest that the artist, who is unknown, felt that the serpent in the garden of Eden was not the devil, but quite likely Lilith.
