Shanghai Hairy crab is a tad smaller than the normal crabs and they are normally steamed and then eaten with vinegar. A delicacy in Shanghai and surrounding areas. It's a seasonal dish and normally eaten during the Fall though. That may be why you think it looks freaky. However, these are LIVE crabs they are selling! At a certain temperature, these crabs become sleepy. I thought it was a marvelous idea!
