How will the war on terror be affected by recent political results?

The war on terror has already been shrouded in mixed viewpoints and unnerving results but the thing im concerned about is how it will be affected by recent election results. Most politicians in the spotlight have promised change in the war on terror, promising to bring troops home and end the war quickly. How is that going to affect us? On an even broader scale how will it affect the world? entering a war is a commitment and not to be taken lightly and although your views should change as results come in however calling for the recall of all of our troops isnt a smart choice in my opinion. People that live in those countries are depending on us to deal with what we started up in their country. We have stirred up a lot of terrorist activity in Afghanistan and Iraq (which is another topic in and of itself) and to just pick up and go home leaving the few supporters we have in those countries to deal with the repurcussions of supporting us is, excuse my language, a bastard move. To recall troops that are now defending citizens who support us from the terrorists that had control over their villages and leave them to the wolves so to say would lower our standing with other nations further than it already is. Is that really what we want? To have other nations look at us with disgust and contempt because we may have jumped in a little too deep. We have the potential to do so much good for these people who have lived under terrorist threats for too long. That, I suppose, is the best way to put it in perspective. We arent fighting a conventional war, we are fighting guerilla tactics with conventional tactics and the battlefield isnt a beach head or a jungle. The battlefield is villages populated by people who expect us to protect them and normally I would probably say something along the lines of these people need to protect themselves but we brought this to them. We are the ones who entered their village and told them we will protect you and we need to stand by that promise. This is only my opinion and i understand everyone is entitled to their own so please dont think im preaching =).
