The best technology magazine out there

Wired magazine is probably the best US magazine that covers the latest trends in technology and the way that they impact the society. It was started in 1993 during the early days of the internet revolution, and unlike many other technology trends from the 90s it has proven to have a staying power. In terms of both the content and design it is one of the most interesting magazines out there. It regularly features reviews and comparisons of new products, and that feature alone is worth the cover price. Wired is also well known for its in-depth coverage of major new technological trends, oftentimes well before they reach the perception of the general public. It critically evaluates those trends, and it is far less susceptible to hype and grandiose overstatements than many other technological news sources. You are not very likely to find a corporate fluff-piece in Wired, and you know that its journalists are professionals with integrity. The articles that deal with the impact of technology on society are written mostly from a left-leaning perspective, but they are overall well written and argued. In fact, Wired is not beyond being a contrarian in many of its analyses, even when they challenge some of the most cherished presumptions of whatever ideology. The case I point is the issue of a few years ago where they debunked many of the environmentalists' favorite dogmas. (For instance, it is more environmentally friendly to run an AC than a heater; housing in Arizona is better for the environment than the housing in Vermont.)

If you want to know what are the best and the coolest new technological trends, and how they may impact your life, there is probably no better magazine out there than Wired.
