Fast, Easy, Different ... and Surprisingly Good Teriyaki Flavor!
Feb 26, 2014
I am not a food critic, nor do I play one on TV. All I am is a consumer – a taster of various foods – and, like you, I know what I like. At this point in my life, I’ve been far more interested in exploring the tastes and treats of non-American culture, and that’s primarily why I picked up this low-cost lunch treat from Yakisoba.
Now, honestly, I didn’t expect this to be a culinary high point in my life, people. I was just looking for an item that would be quick to make for an afternoon lunch while I’m stuck at home doing some computer work. You can only have so many cans of chili or microwaveable packets of macaroni-and-cheese, right? Isn’t there some limit?
Anyway, I picked this up – this teriyaki flavored dish – and I have to admit that I was pleasantly surprised.
For starters, it’s (thankfully!) extraordinarily easy to make. (You know that old joke about burning water? Yeah. That’s me.) You peel back the pre-sealed lid halfway to reveal the contents – noodles and a few packets. Inside, there’s also a handy-dandy fill-line that, unlike some other manufactured products, is very easy to see. Take out the packets, fill with water to the line, and then open the packets with dried vegetables and pour those in. After heating in the microwave for four minutes, take it out, pour in the teriyaki flavor, and stir.
And I do mean stir. The teriyaki flavoring is a powder, and it doesn’t mix up all that easily. I found myself stirring for about two minutes, which isn’t a bad thing as you do want the dish to cool down a bit before you put hot noodles in your mouth. The other plus to stirring in that powder really good is that, as a result, the teriyaki flavoring is actually quite good. I’m a big lover of that flavor, so I hope you understand that I know what I’m talking about. Some teriyaki sauces end up being either too tart or too salty for their own good, but Yakisoba’s is quite easy on the palette, and it definitely compliments the noodles and the warmed vegetables to great effect.
If you’re looking for something fast, easy, different, and pleasant, then you could do far worse. This one gets my highest recommendation.
