Yamaha pianos are a brand of pianos manufactured by the Yamaha corporation of Hamamatsu, Japan.
The company was founded by Torakusu Yamaha in 1887 as Nippon Gakki Company, Limited with the intent of manufacturing pianos and reed organs. The company manufactured its first completely Japanese-made piano in 1900 and continued producing the instrument until World War II, when its manufacturing efforts were concentrated in the production of war-related technologies. After the close of the war, Yamaha resumed production of pianos and expanded to other instruments, including guitars and flutes.
Currently, Yamaha produces the greatest number of instruments, including pianos, worldwide.
