A Yoga Studio that Bends (the Rules)

As someone who practices yoga 5-6 days a week, I'm pretty picky about the studios I frequent, which is why I was so excited to find YogaWorks. Not only do they have the cheapest unlimited monthly rate I've ever encountered ($99), but they have a diverse selection of classes, styles and skill levels that can accomodate everyone, from the cirque de soleil contortionists to the "can't touch my toes" types. When the typical yoga class costs $18-20, a monthly rate of $99 is a godsend.

The Mysore teacher, Magnolia Zuniga, who is authorized by yoga master Sri K. Pattahbi Jois, has been nothing short of inspiring for my practice. I'm working through a hamstring injury (it's been 8 months now. When will it end?) and her advice and knowledgeability about Ashtanga, the breath and the body have been incredibly nourishing in times of frustration and defeat.

In addition to Ashtanga, YogaWorks also offers classes in Iyengar, Vinyasa flow, ISHTA and Therapeutic Yoga. The teachers, as well as the staff, go out of their way to help you realize your full potential, not just in yoga, but in life too! What other yoga studio gives you advice on retirement benefits, brownie recipes and do-it-yourself bang trims?

Their facilities are impeccable, high ceilings in the two expansive studios, great bathroom and shower rooms and a store that sells clothing, water bottles, props, CDs and books that provide greater awareness and in-depth teachings of the yoga tradition. An overall feeling of tranquility pervades the atmosphere. Plus, they always have hot tea brewing, and a free towel is provided before class.

If you want some celebrity street cred, YogaWorks has that too. Just a few of the celebs who practice at YogaWorks (granted, at their NY studio) are Jessica Biel, Heather Graham and Sarah Jessica Parker.

I can't recommend this place enough. YogaWorks for YOU.
