"Act of Valor" Soundtrack Features a Country Sound
May 24, 2012
The “Act of Valor” soundtrack was released in February of 2012. It accompanied the movie “Act of Valor” in which a choice team of Navy Seals embarks on a covert mission. The album is chalked full of country performers, from Keith Urban, Sugarland and Lady Antebellum to Wynonna Judd, Trace Adkins and more. Most of the artists wrote or co-wrote the songs they contributed and many of the songs were written specifically with the movie in mind. The soundtrack begins with “For You” which is performed by Keith Urban. From the first note that is played this song captivates you and definitely sets the tone for the album. It is already making its way across radio waves and I could see this becoming a huge success for Keith. Some of the songs are very heavy and with a voice like Trace Adkins has “If The Sun Comes Up” is one that will stick with you for a long time. Sugarland’s “Guide Me Home” is also very powerful and it has a bit of a twist featuring Kristian Bush on some of the lead vocals. Josh Kelley’s “The Best Of Me” really stood out to me. I love the overall sound of the song, the message and the conviction in which Josh sings it.
The album is very unique in that all of the songs revolve around one central theme, while all telling their own distinctive story. Lori Mckenna’s contribution “Two Soldiers Coming Home” is a perfect example, as well as “What it Takes” by Montgomery Gentry. Other artists including Hunter Hayes and Wynonna also add strong feeling and soaring vocals to this project.
Overall this is a solid soundtrack. It is hard to go wrong with some of country’s biggest hit makers all on board. The only disclaimer is most of the songs are on the slower side, and some can be quite somber and dramatic. It is an album that you may not find yourself putting on a lot, but when you do you will be touched by the emotion of the project every time. Whether you saw the movie or not, giving this soundtrack a listen will leave you thinking about the sacrifice military women and men make and that right there makes it worth it.
