(Before moving any further, if you haven't already I recommend reading the intro to this list titled my Foreword and then going into part one of the series.)

The countdown continues as I now cover 20-11 of the greatest disses in Hip Hop, or better put, my favorite disses in hip hop. These coming up are what I consider the elite and some of these diss records are pretty high profile. If there's anything you haven't heard, I recommend fixing that immediately.

20) Jay Z - Blueprint 2 (Dissing Nas, Jaz-O, & Jungle)

Nas and Jay-Z went to war in 2001 but that battle was far from over, as the two traded shots all the way into 2003. One of the more forgotten disses I believe is Blueprint 2. Here, Jay-Z goes on to mention the difference between him and Nas, the contradictions in his music, and for the final slap, mentions that he's the one who breathed new life into his career. Nas fans, like it or not, this is an actual fact. Had Jay not attempted to end Nas career, he more than likely would have drifted into obscurity because he was already there.

Lyrical Beatdown:

...'Cause the nigga wear a coofie, it don't mean that he bright
'Cause you don't understand him, it don't mean that he nice
It just means you don't understand all the bullshit that he write
Is it 'Oochie Wally Wally' or is it 'One Mic'?
Is it 'Black Girl Lost' or shorty owe you for ice?...

...I'm a legend, you should take a picture with me
You should be happy to be in my presence, I should charge you a fee
I'm Big Dog, Glenn Rob, listen, God, you a flea
An' the little homey Jungle is a garden to me...

19) Boogie Down Productions (KRS-One and DJ Scott La'Rock) - The Bridge is Over (Dissing MC Shan, Mr. Magic, Roxanne Shante, and Marley Marl)

This is a classic that has stood the test of time, and it's actually unique when compared to most disses, because the rappers involved weren't only fighting for their reputations, but they were representing their hoods. This occurred when KRS-One and Scott La'Rock known as BDP took their demo tape to a well known promoter by the name of Mr. Magic, and he didn't feel their tape. While at the same time he was promoting MC Shan of the Juice Crew. On top of BDP feeling dissed by Magic, as well as taking issue with some words used by Shan in his song The Bridge, where BDP believed he mentioned Hip Hop began in Queensbridge; they felt the need to attack and rep their hood with the song South Bronx. Shan knew it was a direct attack so in retaliation he released Kill That Noise, only for BDP to kick out this track here, creating what some believe to be the best battle ever recorded. In the end, BDP won and the battled propelled their careers, while in the case of Shan, many felt that this loss ended his career.

Lyrical Beatdown:

...Manhattan keeps on makin it, Brooklyn keeps on takin it
Bronx keeps creatin it, and Queens keeps on fakin it
...

...They wish to battle BDP, but they cannot
They must be on the dick of who? DJ Scott La'Rock
Cause we don't complain nor do we play the game of favors
Boogie Down Productions comes in three different flavors
pick any dick for the flavor that you savor
Mr. Magic might wish to come and try to save ya
but instead of helpin' ya out, he wants the same thing I gave ya
I finally figured it out, Magic's mouth is used for suckin'
Roxanne Shante is only good for steady fuckin'
MC Shan and Marley Marl is really only bluffin'
like Doug E. Fresh said, I tell you now, you ain't "Nuthin"
compared to Red Alert on KISS and Boogie Down Productions

18) Eminem - I Remember (Dissing Everlast)

Now this was a good battle here. Former House of Pain member Everlast struck first by going after Em on a featured cut to Dilated People's Ear Drum Pop remix. Everlast had switched from rap to singing country, and Eminem decided to attack him at his own craft on this song. Em opened up with a brutal beating singing the first two verses, then he went into a rap cadence to continue taking Everlast apart. Em was his usual comedic self and this turned into a very entertaining diss.

Lyrical Beatdown:

...Yesterday was so long ago
(Long ago)
Kid Rock and Limp Bizkit Came along now don't nobody
Wanna hear your old ass sing no more
I remember back when you had
The Knack
(Had the knack)
And I remember when you had
Your first heart attack
(Heart attack)
I was right there laughin'
When I heard the news(Heard the news)
I just wish the cardiac
Would'a murdered you(Would'a murdered you)...

...What's up with you?
I never fucked with you
Why would you fuck with me?
Knowin' I could rap circles around you
What, are you as nuts as me?
Plus I can sing better than you
And I don't fuckin' sing
And probably play guitar better
And I ain't never touched a string...

...But I ain't mad at you, I'd hate me too if I was you
I'm what you used to be, shit you was me in '92
So every time I write a lyric, I'ma think of you
And maybe that will help me know
What it's like to sing the blues...

17) Everlast - Whitey's Revenge (Dissing Eminem)

Everlast was the front man to House of Pain during hip hop's Golden Age; with that said, battling is nothing new to him and he proves it well by surpassing Em's I Remember counter-attack. In my mind, Em met his match here. Everlast goes on to make fun of his wife cheating on him, as well as Em making over the top songs for the sake of shock value. Like it or not, Em got owned here.

Lyrical Beatdown:

...I get love in New York, I got fam in LA
and I heard you might be the MC that's gay
with your platinum blonde ceasar you look like a hoe
like M and M stand for Marilyn Monroe
talkin bout killin sprees you aint like that yo
makin lots of enemies but thats all for show...

...Instead of worryin' about who you should be dissin'
You need to worry about who your wifey been kissin'
Or if you go to prison, while you're doin' your bid,
I'll look in on your lady and do things for your kid
Make her write you lots of letters about the things that we did
And send you pictures of me chillin' all up in your crib...

...talkin bout a fag
but you the one in drag
and you can't keep your woman from going astray
better run and check your kid for your DNA
I take care of my moms you get sued by yours
with your corny metaphors bout drugs and crack whores...

16) KRS-One - Ova Here (Dissing Nelly)

St. Louis, platinum selling rapper, Nelly, had grown sick and tired of being criticized for below average rapping skills, as well as his choice of songs. The rapper decided to fire at all of those who not only disliked his style, but those who could not move units the way he had been doing on his song titled #1. KRS took issue with this and began releasing disses towards him. Nelly responded back on Roc the Mic remix which lead to KRS roasting him with Ova Here. The Blastmaster attacked Nelly's poor rapping skills, and just basically completely dismissed him as an artist altogether.

Lyrical Beatdown:

Yo, Nelly! You ain't Fo' Reel and you ain't Universal
Your whole style sounds like a N’Sync commercial

Ignoramus! I'm the baddest with the mic apparatus
Challenging the God of rap is madness, I'll snatch your status
With this ugly-looking billboard, you could stop them
But I got enough albums to make my own
top ten
You limited, like the speed of traffic
You bite my style off the radio so when you speak you bet I hear the static
You better Chillout like Chuck, I kick like three Norrises
One of my sixteen-bar rhymes is eight of your choruses
Of course it is, ridiculous

Watch out! I’ll be in the club inconspicuous
Gotcha! On your, hands and knees
Ain't it about time for some real emcees?...

...I told you I wasn't talking about you then, but I'm talking about you now!
(Blaow!) One to the kness! (Blaow!*) One goes right through
Even St. Louis don't like you!

15) Masta Ace - Acknowledge (Dissing the High & Mighty and Boogieman)

Masta Ace to me is like the quiet guy in hip hop who could crush someone in battle should they cross him, and he did just that here. The things I do know about the battle is Boogieman releasing a song called Ghetto Love, and thinking Ace stole the concept for his song called Ghetto Like. From there, Boogieman fired off with Just You Wait. Now this other situation I don't know much about, besides The High and Mighty taking a shot at Ace for some reason. This saw the underground hip hop legend load up and go after all of them.

Lyrical Beatdown:

...One thing, who named y'all the High and the Mighty?
To me, y'all just sound like a couple of high whiteys"...

...Yo, yeah I heard of the Boogeyman when I was a youth, scary
And I found out that he was as fake as the tooth-fairy
Since my last mission this nigga's been ass-kissing
I took a minute, I gave your single a fast listen
Tell me this, with no pot to piss in? How you dissin'
Your group home is about to report  you missing"...

...Consider me the clothes on your back and a warm meal
Who knows, this might just get you a deal...

...I figured I give ya some help, cause you need lots
I make your producer change his name to Speed Nottz
Tell him I say "Fuck him!" for doing the tracks
Matter of fact, fuck Fat Beats, for doing the wax
I'ma diss you via e-mail and then through a fax
I'ma diss you by two-way, I ain't gon' never relax
I'ma diss you over fast, slow track or no track
If your shit wasn't so wack, I dissed you to yo' track
You that little fish that I catch and I throw back
And by the way, give 50 Cent his flow back...

14)MF Grimm feat. MF Mez and MF Bash - The Book of Daniel (Dissing MF Doom)

One thing about hip hop feuds to look forward to, when friends go at each other, groups break up, you begin to learn a lot more about the artists in question. Well, when MF Grimm was put in jail, MF Doom did  the logical thing and started doing him. Unfortunately, he never even bothered with Grimm the whole time he was in. Things became critical when Doom took a shot at their crew M.I.C. (Monster Island Czars). Grimm responded with this track and honestly, he even sounds heart broken over the situation.

Lyrical Beatdown:

...Put yourself in danger, running with a Mouse
Metal turned to braces, punch you in your mouth
Zev Love X, used to be merry
The mask took control of you like Jim Carrey
Megalon, tap him in the jaw, knock it off him

M.I.C. gotta put your mask in a coffin
Mos Def, De La Soul, Roots can't revive you
When the bullets start flying, who's gonna hide you?
Rhymesayers, Stones Throw, Nature Sounds signed you
Make peace with you? Zev, I tried to...

...Doing songs with RZA
That's funny shit
I remember you told me
That he bit Tick, Tick...
You said Ghost was whack
You didn't like his style
Two-faced and three-headed
Bitch I pull your file
New food poisoning
You vomit for a while
You started some shit
Now you sitting on a pile
Metal face, tin foil
Walk the green mile...

13)Royce Da 5'9" - Who Got Bodied? (Dissing Mistah FAB & Joe Budden)

Royce loves to battle, and that's just all there is to it. Now, this occurred when Royce and Mistah FAB had a live battle in NYC, and according to sources (I didn't hear the battle), FAB had smashed him. To add insult to injury, FAB bragged about it for awhile and supposedly this angered Royce into a response. Now let's be honest, Royce had disses written for almost 3 years against D-12 long before they were even beefing.  So Royce more than likely would have gotten at dude anyway. Royce's response was this monster of a diss ripping FAB apart, as well as throwing some shots at Joe Budden, which would erupt into another battle on its own. This was a complete character assassination that caused dudes FAB claimed to run with, to question whether he really did.

Lyrical Beatdown:

...Come onnn, I'm a product of my environment
He ain't gotta try to bring Malcolm out of retirement
He go at me, I hit him ASAP, take that
Get shot up, like a cap gun at a racetrack
He probably from the part of the bay, where the gays at
Where the fags migrate, and give each other AIDS at...

...Budden said the battle was embarassin'
Comparison, this shit here more embarassin'
So I'ma use his beat to murk you
And maybe he'll see that'll I murk him too...

...Ay R, this niggas been dead since the 8th bar
But I'm tryin to overkill him

...Well, if you ever, ever make it to my city
Ask about me
You're lucks over
Cause all you tried to do was be, famous
So now you famous nation wide, for gettin fucked over
Boy pay up
I ball, this a fo' sho' lay up
I'm playin chess wit a Connect Four, player...

12)LL Cool J - To Da Break Of Dawn (Dissing Kool Moe Dee, MC Hammer, and Ice T)

Believe it or not, the self proclaimed G.O.A.T. at one time suffered a lyrical thrashing so bad people predicted his career was over. However, the lashing Mr. Smith withstood from his chief rival Kool Moe Doe only made the rap legend stronger. On his 4th album Mama Said Knock You Out, LL Cool J recorded his greatest counterattack taking the lyrical battle to the rappers opposing him at the time proving LL really is hard as hell.

Lyrical Beatdown:

...Strong as liquor, to be seen in a limousine
Now you're gettin done without Vaseline
Wouldn't bite because your rhymes are puppy chow
Made another million, so competitors bow
Homeboy, hold on, my rhymes are so strong
Nothing could go wrong, so why do you prolong
Songs that ain't strong, brother, you're dead wrong
And got the nerve to have them Star Trek shades on
Ha, you can't handle the whole weight
Skin needs lotion, teeth need Colgate
Wise up, you little burnt up french fry
I'm that type of guy...

...When I'm through, you need a brand-new identity
I was scoopin girls before you lost your virginity...

...I'ma show you the real meaning of the danger zone
Stop dancin, get to walkin
Shut your old mouth when young folks is talkin
Huh, you little snake in the grass
You swing a hammer, but you couldn't break a glass...

...And when I see ya, I'ma give you a slap
That's right, a little kick for that crap
Cause my old gym teacher ain't supposed to rap...

...You're disobedient with the wrong ingredients
But I'ma drink you down over the rocks
While I freak on your album cover jocks
You're gonna hear a real ill paragraph soon
I took the cover right home to the bathroom...

...She's the reason that your record sold a few copies
But your rhymes are sloppy...

11) Eminem - Nail in the Coffin (Dissing Benzino)

Eminem is no stranger to making enemies. When Eminem caught some serious stride and began dominating the rap game back in 2002-03, little did he know his newest nemesis would be the co-owner of the Source magazine, rapper and Boston gangster Benzino. Benzino had a grudge against Em that made it to wax with him claiming that Em was playing by a different set of rules. He released a couple of disses, in which Eminem returned the favor. The diss record to actually bury Benzino was Nail in the Coffin. Here, Em basically clowned him for being an inferior rapper that mainstream artist want nothing to do with, clowned him for trying to eat off his son, as well as his age, handing himself one of the most lopsided lyrical victories on record. This is comedy Em at his best.

Lyrical Beatdown:

I would never claim to be no Ray Benzino
an 83 year old fake Pachino
so how can he hold me over some balcony
without throwin his lower back out as soon as he goes to lift me?
Please don't, you'll probably fall with me
and our asses will both be history
but then again, you'll finally get your wish
cause you'll be 'all over the street' like 50 Cent...

...You swear that you in the streets hustlin
You sit behind a fuckin desk at The Source butt-kissin
and beggin motherfuckers for guest appearances
and you can't even get the clearances cause real lyricists
don't even respect you or take you serious
It's not that we don't like you, we HATE you, period!...

This wraps up the diss tracks I consider the elite, now get yourself ready for the tracks I consider the best of the best. But by this point I'm sure most have already guessed this part....

Amazing list man, in fact some of these I have not heard in years. Also I am so glad some one else thinks Everlast got at Em. Also on the Royce/F.A.B. thing I remeber listeninging to that and maybe even watched a video. As far as I remember I do think that F.A.B. won the battle but based on crowd reaction. But I also thought Royce was a little over the head of the crowd. I am sure a video is on youtube or something. Also I think it went down because F.A.B. was going to battle Joe Budden but he didn't show or something.

Same here. When I decided to pull off this list I spent the entire weekend relistening to these beefs, and trying to get my facts straight on how these things occurred. I tell you, it's not easy to slap together, I actually thought about doing a top 50, but then I realized around 40 or so I would've been reaching. Now, should I ever do my top 100 albums... that will take weeks to do, at least if I decide to make the list entertaining and not just list albums with minimum dialog.

As for the live battle, I don't t really care for live battles that much, because it's the crowd who decides the winner. Case in point, when KRS battled Melle Mel, from a technical standpoint, Mel definitely beat him, and had that been on wax, the Blastmaster would have suffered a L. But KRS won with the crowd backing him because he understood what they wanted and he made them laugh.  Now don't get me wrong, it's not like KRS was lyrically smashed, because had he lost lyrically, it wouldn't have been by that much. Not taking anything away from Mel, because he was a monster in his day, and I think he'll dismantle many of these rappers today.

In any case, props to any emcee who has the balls to battle live, because most of these cats would rather fight from a distance with ghostwriters.

There is a video - Royce Da 5'9 vs Mistah FAB
October 25, 2012
I saw it last night, I had been skipping it for awhile though.

What did you think?
October 26, 2012
It goes back to my Melle Mel and KRS point. Royce's lyricism went over a lot of their heads, plus he did stumble a little while FAB seemed more focus and into that element. His shit didn't sound written like when Boogeyman battled Masta Ace. Boogeyman's shit was obviously pre-written.
