Who doesn't love chau siu baus?

Steamed BBQ pork buns are my favorite.  I used to eat the baked ones until I was in high school.  I went into a Chinese bakery and the old lady that made them told me to try the steamed ones because they're a lot better.  She was right, they taste the best when they're fresh out of the steamer.  Baked ones are good but they can't top a steamed bun.  I order them all the time whenever I'm at the tea house or in a Chinese bakery.  The next time you're at a dim sum, restaurant or bakery skip the baked and go for the steamed ones.  I liked them so much I started to make my own.  They're not that hard to make.  All you need is a large wok or pot and a bamboo steamer.  They'll take about 20 or 30 minutes in the steamer before they're done.  If you make them be careful on how much filling you put inside the dough.  Too much will cause the bun to pop open leaving you with a lopsided and funny tasting bun.
Who doesn't love chau siu baus?

I've always been curious to try something like this. The dough just looks so delicious! Any idea if they make a variation for vegetarians?

Some places do. I experimented with a tofu marinated in soy sauce and shredded cabbage and mushroom filling.
