Potato Chips from Lay's
Baked Lays: The Chip that Roared by Joel "I can never eat just one" Comm It's crunchy. It's salty. It's not fattening. It's not immoral or illegal either. It's the biggest thing since potato chips. Well, I guess that's not totally true. After … see full wiki
As I recall, it was a bit more than twenty five years ago that I began having a great deal of trouble digesting deep fried foods. I was only in my mid-thirties at that time but greasy foods such as donuts, french fries and fried chicken were wreaking havoc with my stomach. I decided to listen to what my body was trying to tell me and on the spur of the moment I vowed to eliminate all deep fried foods from my diet. Well, I am proud to say that since 1988 I have not partaken of any deep fried food whatsoever...not even a french fry! I feel so much better! Over the years I found that one of the things I really did miss was potato chips. I often enjoyed chips with my favorite sandwiches and occasionally as a snack while watching television. For quite a few years I simply did without. Then in 1996 Frito-Lay introduced Baked! Lay's Original Potato Crisps. I thought I had died and gone to heaven! One look at the Nutrition Facts on the bag told me it was OK to indulge every now and then. Just compare. A 1-1/8 oz serving of Lay's "Original" Potato Chips contains 230 calories with "Calories From Fat" amounting to 140. Meanwhile, the same size serving of Baked! Lay's Original Potato Crisps contains only 130 calories with just 15 of those calories coming from fat. That is a substantial difference! The fact of the matter is that these tasty treats have 80% less fat than regular potato chips! How do they do that?
While I don't often keep any in the house I allow myself to enjoy Baked! Lay's Original Potato Crisps once or twice a week when I go out for lunch or grab a pizza. Being a very plain eater I prefer the original to the flavored varieties which I am told are pretty awesome as well. I find that I enjoy these baked chips every bit as much as the regular chips that I used to eat. And best of all no heartburn! The truth is I could never go back to eating greasy potato chips. A great step forward in the history of junk food! Highly recommended!
